Hey, look, its Wednesday, and I’m about to post another bunch of random stuff…

…that wasn’t intentional, I swear.

But maybe it could be from now on?  Hmmm…

ANYWAY!

First off, thanks everyone for the encouragement/tips/advice/etc…yesterday.  The diet is being tweaked this week, and I’m going to try to change things up a bit w/ the workouts too, so we’ll see how this week goes.

Secondly, ever since my 5k on Sunday my legs have been sore as hell.  I tried running some yesterday and I totally sucked at it. I understand that I need to rest a bit (Rob P. on dailymile said 1 day of rest for every mile in a race), but I don’t understand why I’m even having an issue.  The only difference between what I did on Sunday and what I would do any other day is that I ran outside, instead of running on the treadmill.  Granted, outside was colder, and it wasn’t completely flat, but this is BS.  I’ve been walking today (walking is exercise too, right?), and I hope to be back to being able to run some tomorrow, it’s starting to bug me that I can’t do it, and its only been a few days!

Thirdly…

Erin tagged me for this, so I thought I’d go ahead and oblige.  These are in no particular order. :)

Ten Things That Make Steve Happy

  • My readers. I can talk to you all when no one else is around, or I can’t talk to them.  You give me encouragement, support, and the occasional much needed ass kicking.  You guys are awesome.
  • My friends and family. I love spending time w/ my friends, whether it be chillin’ in front of the TV, traveling, barhopping, whatever…My family is pretty awesome too, they can be a pain in the ass at times (thats family for you), but overall they kinda rock…unless my mom is getting her ass k*cked in Mario (IT’S NOT JUST ME!), then she can be a bit crazy/bitchy :-P
  • My electronics. Ipod, laptop, cellphone, Wii, I LOVE YOU ALL!  You keep me connected, help me waste time, and help me improve my eye hand coordination.  WooT!
  • Margaritas. I should specifically just point out Tequila, but I haven’t had a shot in a lllooonnnggg time.  Margarita though?  Yes please.
  • Traveling. 2009 was a pretty awesome year for traveling, especially since it marked the first time I’ve left the country. WooT.  Along the same vein we have…
  • Cities. While I don’t know if I could really live in one for long period of time, I love them.  I love to visit, to take in the surroundings, to admire the skyscrapers, etc…etc…etc…
  • Reading. Which reminds me, I need to pick up some more books, hehe.
  • Success. When I lose weight, when I run a PB, when I get a good grade, when I get recognized at work.  Stuff like that.
  • Nostalgia. This might sound really lame, but I love finding and rewatching TV shows I watched when I was a kid, or playing w/ the toys, or just remembering it.  This is part of the reason why I proudly have a Teddy Ruxpin sitting next to the TV in my room.  For the most part, they were simpler times, and they were alot of fun.
  • Vegetable Samosas. Yeah, that might sound wierd, but have you ever actually had one?!  They. Are. Delicious.

It’s kind of bad that I had to really think of enough stuff to put on this list.  I don’t think its an indication of me being depressed or disturbed or anything, but maybe I could use a little more happy :)

I’m also supposed to tag 10 people so they can repost this list, but most of the people I would tag have already been tagged or posted a list (once again, I’m behind the times..DAMMIT!).  So I’ll pull a Craig and tag EVERYONE!  MWAHAHAHAHA…

Peace out.  Have a good day :)

I <3 margaritas, and I've got some incredible tequila straight from Mexico. The stuff is so smooth you'd be like, "This is TEQUILA?!" – nothing at all like the bite you get from Jose!

Oh, and WTHeck is a vegetable samosa? Is it healthy or should I not even ask?! :-P

  2. Juncti says:

I love some Tequila. I don’t get the hate on Jose though, when it’s a good time of year for limes I find nothing better than a bottle of Jose kept in the freezer for a few days, pour it right into a shot glass and down it with a twist of lime as a chaser. What else is good Tequila that you can get in the states?

I’m going to need to see about finding a recipe for these Samosas. Especially the baked variety you mention. Don’t know about having mint in a meal though. Something about mint in foods just bothers me.

    • Steve says:

The mint chutney is optional, its really just something to dip it in, so you’re good to go there. As far as Tequilas though, I usually go w/ Jose cuz its fairly inexpensive. I like Petron Silver, but isn’t that like 60 bucks a bottle or something? I’m always willing to try other kinds though :D

  3. Craig says:

great list!!! Ummmm Steve…Mario is calling. He needs some attention! :)

  4. AndrewENZ says:

    Great list.

Your legs are sore because you pushed yourself harder in the race than you would in normal training.

  5. Karyn says:

    He he, Craig! Good one.

And Mario can go to hell!

Those samosas sound good. I too will have to look up a recipe. And I love mint! :) Not so much tequila.

  6. Craig says:

I wish we all lived in the same area…we could have a big ole MARIO PARTY~! After a few miles of exercise of course! haha

    • Steve says:

Oh lawd…Mario is hard enough 1 player…it’s hellacious when you throw more than one person in. Still though, that could be fun :-P

      • Craig says:

I do agree….2 player Mario is pretty much impossible. I always get bumped off the screen and die. It’s fun while drinking, though! As long as you’re just playin’ for laughs.

  7. David H. says:

Like Andrew said, your legs are sore because of the extra push. You’ll experience this your first few races that are around a 5k. From my experience, that post-race pain gets easier every time. Now that I run longer distances, the pain in the short distances doesn’t last nearly as long. And I say the 1 day of rest for each mile ran is total B.S. I’ve heard that before, but it’s not totally true, especially not for a 5k. Hang in there, massage your legs, drink lots of water and it’ll get better. Trust me!

    • Steve says:

I’ve been massaging my legs and it helps alot, which is great (since after I tried running yesterday I could barely walk..ugh). I wanna get back into it ASAP so I can prepare for the 4 miler in February. Thanks!

  8. One thing my trainer suggested to me, which I have done and it does help right after a tough workout but before soreness sets in, is to take as hot a shower as you can, and then alternate with thirty seconds of only cold water and only hot water, for about four minutes. Something about it helping flush lactic acid out or something. I dunno; I may have made that last part up, but it definitely does help with soreness when I try it. I don’t know if it would work now, but it can’t hurt, right?

And you can have the tequila. When Tina and I went to Cancun last February, we had free tequila in the room. First and last shot. Kicked my ass. I’ll stick to my frozen girlie drinks by the pool, thank you. :)

  9. josie says:

I can see samosas in my near future!

I am learning about so many new foods I want to try. Those sound delicious!

Love your list Steve. I am also very nostalgic by nature. I still have my Rainbow Bright dolls from the day. LOL!

  10. Craig says:

I still have my ALF stuffed toy and GI JOE action figures! No idea why, but I do! :)
