Jan 152010

TGIF everyone, here is my second update for 2010 on the various challenges I am involved in.  WooT!

NEW YEAR CHALLENGES

New Year 100 Mile Running Challenge
-We’re halfway through the month and I only have 33.44 miles under my belt.  UGH!  I think what I’m going to do for the time being is focus on finishing this challenge as fast as possible, then pouring the rest of my time into the biking challenge.  Overall, everyone is doing an awesome job though, everyone involved should be beyond proud :)

New Year 500 Mile Biking Challenge
-I’m in second with 79.47 miles, but that isn’t saying much considering that Alex is in first place with 214.17 miles.  I’m gonna keep at it though, and do the best I can, but I want to at least complete ONE of my own challenges.

That’s it for my own challenges, good luck to everyone participating.  Still time to get involved and see what you can do, so click on one of the above links and have at it!

PERFECT 10 CHALLENGE

And here is my Perfect 10 update for the week:

  • Lose at least 15 pounds (starting weight 245 pounds)–still only down 2.4 pounds, but hey, I’m down.  Hopefully the scale will be nicer next Tuesday.
  • Run/walk/jog 200 miles–33.44 miles down…getting there.  Going to try to up the mileage this next week though, even if I have to walk some of it.
  • Strength train at least twice a week–Yeah, no, fail.  I didn’t do any strenght training this past week :(
  • Run a 5k road race–SUCCESS!  Ran the Mighty Medford on Sunday. WooT!  Still planning on running the Bear Run 4 Miler on February 7th.
  • Finish at least one of this semesters college courses–I am going to work on this a bit tonight, and moreso on the weekend.  Still confident about this one.
  • Beat Super Mario Brothers Wii–I beat the first castle of World 5.  Slowly, but surely. Steve is also asking we post something that noone knows about us, so here goes:  I am a Notary Public for the State of Maryland.  After I got my associates degree I really wanted to try for a job as a paralegal in a law firm, so I became a Notary thinking it would help give me some credibility.  Funny how things work out though, b/c I don’t work for a law firm and I’ve never even notarized anything.  D’oh!
  • Not as exciting as skydiving, I know.  I’ll try to do better next week :-P

    HABIT.A.WEEK CHALLENGE

Lyn from Escape from Obesity is hosting the Habit.A.Week Challenge. The “habit” for this week is to MOVE! Basically, take steps to move around and increase your fitness level.  I’d like to think I’m doing okay with this, I ran a 5k, I have worked out almost every day this week, I walked to work on Wednesday, etc..etc.. One could always do more though.

And…that’s it?  How are you all doing with your goals?

Hope you all have a great weekend!

You’re doing great with your perfect ten. Time to get running though!

    2. Juncti says:

I’ve been having trouble with the biking. My knees are acting up again. Just going to do slow and steady and see if I can’t at least get a decent number in this month. I don’t think 500 is going to happen though. Might have been a bit too much too soon for someone my size.

All the more reason to keep losing weight, so my body can handle exercise better.

I are doing great with your challenges. hard to get in both biking and running eh? I sure miss my bike. I should go and get one of those frame thingies where I can use my own bike in the house to ride. I would be able to keep up some of my biking stamina and participate in the biking challenges too. I hate those stationary exercise bikes.

Your on world 5 of Mario?!! I can’t get through the stupid ice pillar things on world 3 level 1. Maybe if I try by myself. I am usually playing with my daughter and believe me, I don’t think this Mario for Wii promotes family time, it promotes family fights! :)

    4. Craig says:

      I’m a notary too! How cool! :)

I can’t wait for you to get to this castle in level 7. I think it’s the mid-way of level 7. Remember that (because I forget everything)…and lmk when you do. It was the most evil of all castles. Well, that’s not entirely true. Beating it was hard, but beating it with the coins took me like 3 nights of trying!

You’re doing good on your challenges and I hope you have a great weekend!

    5. josie says:

You’re doin’ fantastic, man! WooT! :-)

Are you gonna try to do some strength training next week? It’s hard trying to incorporate so many different types of workouts in. (running, biking, strength) so don’t beat yourself up for not being as far as you’d like. The fact that you ran a ROAD RACE says a LOT. Keep it up! and you’re farther than I am in Mario now! yay! I’m still on the 2nd castle in level 3.

    6. Erin says:

I’m a notary, too!!! In my old job, we had alot of clients who needed things notarized and no one to help them do it. So, being the Mom that I am, became a notary. Six months later, I quit. That job sucked!!!

You rock on those goals. Can I get a WooT?! :-D

    7. christy says:

Congrats on the 5K! I’m planning my first in April!

    9. I don’t know which is more interesting, that you are a notary, or that you have never functioned as a notary. :-) Good week Steve!

    10. Craig says:

LOL…there’s something about using that notary stamp that gives me a feeling of power. I guess because I’m the only one in our hospital that can do it :P

    11. haha no not as exciting, but I guess my secret this week isnt a funny one

    12. Helen says:

I’m a notary too and notarize stuff almost on a daily basis as I do it for free for anyone who works with me.

You’re doing great on your goals. I had a lower loss week 2 as well and stated that I feel like those poor people on the Biggest Loser who always seem to have slow week 2s. Here’s to a better Week 3 for all of us!

    13. Derek says:

      Congratulations on your progress!

Reading your post, I realized how much setting great goals can change your perspective. Even if you’re behind where you think you should be, stop and realize how much you’ve done. It’s awesome.

I think I need to be setting bigger goals. Last year, I did “Climb Miami”, 1210 stairs. It really kicked my butt, but it felt great to accomplish something. I haven’t set any for 2010, and it’s time.
